What's New from USCIS - September Roundup
- The Administration Considers Drastically Expanding Biometric Requirements: More biometraic information might be collected in the near future for immigrants seeking US citizenship, including DNA, facial recognition, etc. Read more here!
- Now you can use I-797 Approval Notice as a temporary work permit: Due to long delays on printing EAD and Green Cards, USCIS temporarily allows certain employers to accept Form I-797, Notice of Action with a notice date between December 1st, 2019 and August 20th, 2020for Form I-9 employment eligibility. - American Lawyer Associations filed a lawsuit against the increased fees: The new fees were scheduled to go into effect on Oct. 2nd. A lawsuit was filed against Department of Homeland Security, intending to stop the new fee schedule to go into effect in Oct. Read more here.
- USCIS cancelled the scheduled furloughs in August: The House passed an emergency funding bill to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Read more here.
- New version of Form I-765 starts from August 25th! Using the old version of Form I-765 will no longer be accepted moving forward. Read more here.
- Remote I-9 Verification is Temporary Accepted: ICE and DHS now allow certain employers to defer physical presence requirements associated with Form I-9 and section 274A of the Immigration and Nationality Act. Read more here.
