- Debit Card - fill out Form G-1450
- Credit Card - fill out Form G-1450 (This is what I used! I think it's the most convenient way)
- Personal Checks - Click here to see an example on USCIS's website.
- Money Orders
In this post, I am going to show you quickly how to write a money order to pay for your green card application fees.
How to write a money order to USCIS
You can purchase money orders from post office, UPS, your bank, convenience stores, grocery stores, Wal-Mart and more places. The money orders format varies depends on where you purchase them from but basically they will contain 5 parts:
1. Pay to the Order of
This is the field for who you are paying to. You need to write: "U.S. Department of Homeland Security" Be careful, DO NOT use abbreviations like "USDHS" or "DHS".
2. Your Name & Address
Some money orders give you this optional field for providing your name and current mailing address just in case someone needs to contact you.
3. Dollar Amounts
Make sure you write the correct filing fees on your money order. If you are filing I-130 and I-485 concurrently, I would suggest doing two money orders:
- One for Form I-485 & Biometrics ($1225)
- One for Form I-130 ($535)
4. Details about this Payment
Provide some information about this payment. What is it for? Some people combine multiple form fees together but I personally like to separate them so they are clear and accurate. It's really up to you!
5. Signature
Don't forget to sign!
What payment method did you or will you use? What's your experience? Share with all of us!
