More biometric data and personal information might be required for immigrants seeking US citizenship in the near future! The Homeland Security sated on Tuesday that they may drastically expand the government's collection of biometric information as part of the immigration application process. Current Biometircs Requirement

USCIS only requires biometrics or biological measurements from immigrants over 14 years old who apply for certain immigration benefits. The information collected includes:

  • fingerprints
  • photographs
  • signatures

Proposed Biometrics Requirement

Under the new proposed policy, minors may also need to provide their biomerics information. And the data collected will include:

  • fingerprints
  • photographs
  • signatures
  • DNA 
  • eye scans
  • voice prints
  • phonographs for facial recognition
Some sources also indicated that the new policy may further require biometrics from the immigrant's US Citizen sponsors.

The administration claims this proposed change will improve the screening and vetting process and reduce false information on paper documents.
