Judge Ruled USCIS to Clear Delayed Work Permits and Green Cards within 7 Days

The EAD & Green Cards Printing Delays

There have been thousands of immigrants being left without work permits (EAD cards) and green cards as of July 2020. There was a backlog of over 150,000 cards reported. Why so delayed? USCIS failed to renew their contact with an outside company that produce EAD and Green Cards. The contract ended in June 2020 and USCIS took back the business in house. Read more details here.

As the delay has significantly affected many workers, several immigrants filed a lawsuit to demand USCIS to clear the backlogs. Finally, on August 3rd, the Federal District Judge Marbley ordered USCIS to start printing the delayed work permits and green cards within 7 days!

Judge Marbley considers the waiting "an immediate threat of harm" for immigrants as they are not able to provide for themselves and families. This puts these immigrants at a more vulnerable position to COVID-19.

USCIS has requested a review of the order and further hearing is scheduled. I will keep you posted as I hear more about it!
