What's the Current Average EAD Card Processing Time?
According to USCIS, the current average processing time for EAD (Form I-765, the Application for Work Authoritarian) is about 4 to 5 months for 2020 applicants. My readers' real timeline also reflects this average wait time. Click here to see real timelines.So it looks like the 2020 processing time is actually faster than 2019's. I believe this is because USCIS started reusing certain old biometrics for eligible cases.

How long is the EAD automatic extension?
If you are eligible for the automatic extension, you may receive up to 180 days extension of your EAD. The extension begins on the date your EAD expires and continues for up to 180 days, unless your renewal request is denied.Who is Eligible for the Automatic Extension of EADs?
In order to be eligible for the EAD automatic extension, you need to meet these requirements:- You have filed an application to renew your EAD before it actually expires (except certain applicants with Temporary Protected Status (TPS))
- The eligibility category on your EAD is the same category on your Form I-797C. (except applicants with TPS)
- Eligible EAD categories for the automatic extension are:
- A03/A05/A07/A08/A10
- C08/C09/C10/C16/C20/C22/C24/C31
- A12/C19
What you need to do is to present your Form I-797C as a proof of timely filed EAD renewal application with your expired EAD card. The EAD and Form I-797C must have the same eligibility category. This will give you the automatic extension for up to 180 days.
