The naturalization test is going to be more difficult to pass! The administration is planning to make changes on the test which can potentially increase the difficulty of the exam.

Naturalization test is an important step for immigrants to become a US citizen. Let's learn more details:

US Citizenship Naturalization Exam is Getting More Difficult!

What does the naturalization exam cover currently?

The exam generally includes both English and Civics tests. Currently the exam comes with 100 civics questions. During an interview, you will be asked up to 10 questions and have to answer at least 6 questions correctly to pass.

What parts of the naturalization test will be changed?

Several major changes include:
  • Increase civics questions from 10 to 20
  • Changing the passing score to 12 out of 20 questions instead of 6 out of 10 questions
  • An offer will ask all questions (currently the questions stop when an applicants reaches the passing score)
  • More civics topics will also be added
  • Include more questions that test your understanding of US history and civics in line with the statutory standard than the current exam
  • Include more topics on specific amendments to the Constitution
  • Include more "Why" questions.

When will the new changes go into effect?

We don't know when the new changes are going to be rolled out yet. We should expect to hear from USCIS about the new naturalization exam changes soon. Stay tuned!

**New Updates 11/13/2020: USCIS today announced the revised naturalization civics test. The agency first announced plans to revise the civics test in July 2019
